How Flex Turned Its Data Into Decisions with Orion
How an Analyst Stopped Chasing Data and Started Finding Answers
About Flex
Flex Mobile is a consumer brand within IM Telecom, a telecommunications provider in the prepaid wireless space.
Daphne Rippy wears several hats at Flex, from business analyst to director of operations, and owns the reporting that leadership depends on every day.
The Challenge
Before Orion, Daphne's team had the same problem most data teams do. The tooling worked. The day-to-day was heavy. "The frustration was really trying to figure out where to find the data, how the data was being reported, how to convert the raw data into actionable insights," she said. That is not a telecom problem. That is every analyst's problem.
Worse, different teams built their own version of the truth. Compliance would report a number one way, logistics another, and leadership would get slightly different answers to the same question, all from the same data. Just "making sure that everyone's reporting the same information out and everyone had the same data" was a constant, manual grind.
The Turning Point: A 10% Problem Hiding in Plain Sight
The clearest example of what changed came from a routine question about failed payments. Daphne loaded 30 days of CSV data into Orion and asked it to compare against Flex's Stripe records: why weren't auto-payments going through?
Orion surfaced something the team had not caught. "It was basically rejecting 10% of our auto pay," Daphne said. That was not a rounding error. "It actually is a Stripe issue. So now we're looking at other forms of payment structures, because it's such a negative impact on our business right now."
A single question uncovered a revenue leak that manual reporting had missed entirely. Most data teams have a version of this problem. The question is whether they ever find it. That is the difference between a reporting tool and an analyst. As Daphne put it, she can simply ask Orion "what am I missing?" and it "will bring a variety of different items to you," flagging patterns and asking whether she is seeing them too.
How Flex Uses Orion Now
"Orion has replaced for me almost 90% of my reporting duties," Daphne said. That is not an efficiency gain. It is a different job. The work that used to define her week, finding data sources, joining tables, rebuilding reports, and reformatting outputs, is largely gone. Now she validates what Orion produces rather than building from scratch.
The shift shows up in concrete ways. When a colleague needs to respond to a legal subpoena, a report that once took significant time now turns around in 30 to 45 minutes, formatted, professional, logo included, ready to send. "We're not wasting time, but we're not spending a lot of time and effort on it. It's great."
It has also changed how Daphne shows up in meetings. When leadership asks a follow-up she cannot answer off the top of her head, she types it into Orion and has the answer in minutes, with the reasoning attached. "You're able to have all those facts right there at your fingertips as to why the answer is what it is." She calls it "my AI interface in my meetings" and "my right hand tool." The question that used to end with "I'll follow up on that" now gets answered live.
Why It Matters
The value is not just speed. It is confidence. Orion does not just hand Daphne a number; it pressure-tests her thinking. "It either gives you a different layer of thinking, or it validates that layer that you're already considering," she said. Instead of guessing what the data means and hoping she is right, she gets a second set of eyes that either confirms her read or challenges it.
For a lean team supporting an entire business, that is the whole game: faster answers, one version of the truth, and the occasional catch, like a 10% payment rejection rate, that pays for the tool many times over.
